Blog Post 9: Course Reflection

Next: No More!

Going into this course, I already considered myself a game developer with one successful project under my belt: Double Cheeseburger, Medium Fries. Because of that, I was familiar with a lot of the content relating to the experience side of thing (prototyping, playtesting, etc). However, I absolutely learned a lot from this course. I learned a lot of more technical and specific things about mechanics, narrative, and more. I think the most interesting thing was learning about the aesthetics in MDA. It was kinda inspiring to see the few listed aesthetics cover any game I could think of, and it was even more to think about which apply to the games I have made. I also enjoyed learning about the Layered Tetrad, and what exactly a game is on every level. I feel like these things are really important to know, even if its a while before I directly apply it anywahere.

I absolutely read about games, wrote about games, played games, and designed games. This course was wonderful to take, and was a lot of fun. I was excited to make and show off Race Of The Teleporting Cars, and it was super fun and interesting to play the games of my classmates. Thanks for the class James!Â
